Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society (IMSS)
IMSS remains the sole settlement agency in BC's northern region. The agency has been providing settlement and adaptation services to immigrants and refugees since 1976 in order to provide and promote a welcoming and inclusive community for all. With the combined experience and expertise, IMSS meets the settlement and adaptation needs of newcomers in the north through various programs and services including English Language Services for Adults, Employment Assistance Services, Settlement Assistance, Community Bridging Services, and multicultural programs for youth, women, and seniors. IMSS promotes multiculturalism and racial harmony in the pursuit of social justice for all Canadians.
Prince George Multicultural Heritage Society
Formed in 1974 as an umbrella organization for various cultural groups in Prince George and surrounding areas, the Prince George Multicultural Heritage Society has evolved to meet the needs and aspirations of the cultural communities it serves. The Society's mandate includes implementation of the federal and provincial policies of multiculturalism and the promotion of cross-cultural relations.
Le Cercle des Canadiens Français de Prince George
This organization was founded in 1960. This active community of francophones promotes Canada's other official language in Prince George. Hosting celebrations such as Festival D'Hiver and St. Jean Baptiste Day, this group also manages a pre-school program, a summer camp program and a resource centre with computers, library, videos and DVDs.
Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC)
The PGNFC is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization dedicated to servicing the needs of Aboriginal people residing in the urban area and improving the quality of life in the community as a whole. Fundamental to this is the recognizing the inherent worth of all peoples regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, or culture and to promote this view in the community at large.
BC Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) - School District No. 57
The SWIS initiative provides orientation information and support to newly arrived students and families in the public school system and connects them to services and resources in the school and community.
