Welcome PG: Airport Day - January 31st, 2014

Airport Days is a youth-based event where a group of local Prince George citizens gather at the airport to meet people travelling PG. This is both a way to showcase the warmth of the people of Prince George, as well as a way to make people feel welcomed upon their arrival... sometimes we even have chocolate!

The next Airport Day happens to tie into Chinese New Year.

“Since 2008 WICWP has been one of the most effective public programs done within IMSS and that is because it has been inclusive of the wider community.   This legacy phase captured the public’s imagination through the media campaign with the exhibition of success stories and the new public artwork.  This attention would not have possible without the vision of a diverse group of community stakeholders in the our Primary Partners, the Prince George Airport Authority and the Art Advisory Committee. This Committee understood the needs of the community and in that selected an innovative project, and location, that reflects the unique nature of this community.  The artwork ‘celebrating diversity’ is located in the Arrivals Terminal at the Prince George Airport in order to welcome everyone to our community.”

Baljit Sethi, Executive Director - Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society of Prince George

“By encouraging our business members to participate in workshops, advisory councils, speaker presentations, and through award celebration and recognition of Business Excellence, attention has been focused on the goals of the WICWP project and the beneficial outcomes for all.  The final phase of the project, the Legacy Phase, has been perhaps the most engaging as together we helped create a piece of public art that will stand as an example of our city’s diversity and welcoming spirit for decades to come.”

Jennifer Brandle-McCall, CEO - Prince George Chamber of Commerce
